Unofficial OS Leak: OS 4.6.1.174 for the BlackBerry Curve 8900
By James Falconer on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 9:26 AM PST In BlackBerry, RIM (Research in Motion)

As promised here comes the second OS update for BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) users today. This one is an unofficial release for the BlackBerry Curve 8900… OS 4.6.1.174. As with all unofficial OS releases, make sure you backup your device and take all necessary precautions. If you don’t need to install an unofficial update… then don’t. But if you absolutely have to get the latest build, then hey, I’m sure you know exactly what to do. Give ‘er.

Stay tuned for more… the way these OS updates are dropping around the web these days… We may see a few more unofficial updates before the weekend is over

Just ordered the 8900 yesterday.
James, do “official” OS updates happen over the air or do I need to download/install from my comp?
Additionally, will you post on this when it goes official?
Zak,
These unofficial updates must always be done through the Desktop Manager… However, official updates can be installed via the DM, or in some cases there are wireless OTA updates. Built into the OS is a feature through the options menu… options > advanced options > wireless updates. Obviously this is the easiest and fastest way to update, and certainly the way things are headed…
James
Why thank you Mr. Falconer
