Juniper ResearchAccording to a new report from Juniper Research, mobile games revenues reached $5.4 billion in 2008. Not surprisingly, markets that led this growth include India, Africa & Middle East, as well as developing nations across the Asia Pacific region.

In the report titled “Mobile Games: Subscription & Download (5th edition),” Juniper awarded two companies with its Future Mobile Awards for their achievements in the mobile gaming space. Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) took the Gold Award with its AppStore, while the silver medal went to Fishlabs for their work in development of premium 3D titles and their mobile gaming community – myFISHLABS.

Other findings from the Juniper report include:

  • The Far East & China is the largest regional market in terms of games downloads.
  • The Indian Sub Continent will overhaul Western Europe to become the second-largest such market by 2010.
  • More than 50% of games downloaded by 2012 will be funded by advertising.
  • Operators in Europe and the US need to reduce their demands on game revenue share to encourage developers.
