Steve Jobs to launch Apple iPhone Nano in June?

iPhone fans looking for a smaller, more pocketable iPhone form-factor (not that the iPhone or iPhone 3G are big by any means) might soon be rewarded for their long wait. Word on the street has it that Steve Jobs is preparing to personally launch the iPhone Nano in June.

Rumor, speculation, hearsay, you can call it whatever you want, just don’t put all your eggs in this particular Nano-basket.

This particular rumor comes from Journal Du Geek, which cites “sources” that presumably have some sort of legitimate insider information regarding the new, smaller iPhone. We’re not going to invest too much faith, but if the rumor proves accurate, we might just see Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) announcing the iPhone Nano at some sort of launch event in June. These “sources” further claim that Steve Jobs will be heading up the launch event. But, with concerns about SteveJobs’s health leading some to speculate that the Apple leader will be taking a less visible role in the company’s operations, Jobs’s days of keynote-showmanship may be over.

We’re also hearing that the iPhone Nano will have the same size multi-touch display as its bigger brother, the iPhone 3G, and will feature a 3G data connection, GPS receiver, and WiFi radio. The Nano is said to be an all-screen slate, much like the iPhone and iPhone 3G but without all that space wasted on a home button and earpiece. To save space, the iPhone Nano will supposedly have the home button moved to the side of the device.

Take all this at face value, dear reader. Apple has one of the tightest lipped development pipelines in the business, and leaks like this don’t happen often. But, if true, we’re going to be in for an interesting June!
