Android Market to Offer Paid Apps in the UK Tomorrow

T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) UK has announced that starting tomorrow paid apps will be available to G1 users via the Android Market. This news was shared at a T-Mobile Android event in London early this morning.
“From tomorrow, UK customers will have paid apps on the phone, and there’ll be a wide selection of paid apps on the market”
The words above were from T-Mobile UK’s head of internet and entertainment Richard Warmsley. He also commented on the impact Android has made on their company, noting that their philosophy has been ‘open is better’. He went on to mention sales of the G1 within the UK account for 20% of all handset sales, and G1 sales are believed to be hitting 70% of iPhone sales in the UK. Should be interesting to see the numbers once the G2 is out for awhile (c’mon, HTC!).
Ah, love that Android Market icon… Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), you should design something like that for your mobile store… oh, wait… you already did… Nevermind.
