Dual-mode HTC Cedar Due for Verizon?

Some clever snooping has revealed Verizon (NYSE: VZ) may be picking up a new handset from HTC that will cruise both GSM and CDMA networks. The Cedar, Whitestone and Twin spotted in HTC’s roadmap are all posibilities, but the QWERTY-clad Cedar seems like the most likely possibility, especially since it passed through the FCC recently. To be fair, it’s all guess work at this point, based entirely on some creative interpretations of product codes on the Global Certification Forum. Here’s how the reasoning goes: the XV designation typically refers to Verizon, and the HTC Twin, rumored to indeed be dual-mode, won’t be landing on Verizon; the full-touchscreen Whitestone isn’t due to land on Verizon until September, leaving the HTC Cedar the most likely candidate, although there hasn’t been any info to date supporting its dual-modality. It’s quite the stretch, so take it with a grain of salt for now, but certainly within the realm of possibility.
