Many wireless markets in the world will soon see Telefonica (NYSE: TEF)’s brand give way to Movistar as the telecom giant rebrands its services around the globe. Telefonica is reportedly ditching the Telefonica name in favor of the Movistar brand for its telecommunication services. The news of Telefonica’s move to rebrand themselves as Movistar follows on speculation that Telefonica has nailed down Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre exclusivity in some markets.
Telefonica will continue with the O2 (NYSE: TEF) brand in the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia while the Live brand lives on in Brazil.

Telefonica’s Brazilian operation is not called “Live” but “VIVO” instead.
VIVO is owned by both Telefonica and Protugal Telecom.
