nsn-logoTelkomsel has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to expand its existing network, capacity, and performance. Given that the current active subscribers are less than half the population, there is some serious room for expansion.

The deal between Telkomsel and its long term network and services supplier Nokia Siemens Networks, covers the supply, deployment and integration of WCDMA/HSPA radio access networks (RAN) as well as 2G base station sub-system (BSS) and services solutions in the country. This includes the supply of Nokia Siemens Networks’ award winning, and world’s most energy efficient, Flexi base station.

Sarwoto Atmosutarno, CEO Telkomsel, said, “The cooperation is Telkomsel’s effort to maintain our position as the service leader in a very competitive market. We are highly aware of the importance of network quality in the era where competition is a call for quality. Therefore, we continuously expand our networks as well as increase capacity, one of which is realized by strengthening our partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks.”

Certainly these days it seems the infrastructure vendors are choosing those networks where there are huge potential subscriber numbers to be had – but also focusing on energy-efficiency, which is a great thing to hear – pat on the back for NSN!
