MMS Also Coming in iPhone 3.0?

By Simon Sage on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 at 6:20 AM PST In Rumors, iPhone

iphone mms MMS Also Coming in iPhone 3.0?One clue that didn’t make it in the Diggnation clip yesterday about the iPhone OS 3.0 was that MMS would also be available, alongside cut and paste. Something tells me cut/paste and MMS aren’t going to be the only things that bring Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) up to the plate versus the Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre, although Kevin Rose does call them “the big two”. Nevermind the stupid stuff iPhone should have included from the get-go  – today the announcement is happening, and I think we’re all curious to see what else Apple has up their sleeve. Y’all might want to hit up our poll to let everyone know what you would like most to see out of today’s announcement, although two options seem pretty locked-in.

Why are people even bothered about MMS? It’s irrelevant!

Email is what MMS should always have been, and how DoCoMos iMode system (which MMS only ever hoped it could be) was based on.

Ironically, the Email client is still quite shaky on the iPhone unless it’s connected via WiFi – THAT is where the development effort should be.

Really, come on – MMS – get over it!

iPhone set the stage, and standard. Now, other phones are offering features that it doesn’t have, so now it’s iphone’s catch-up time. but with the upcoming pre, and the slew of android devices to hit later in the year, I’d say the apple needs a couple new phones, not just an iphone nano. maybe an iphone nano and an iphone hd. both would be lovely but i’m holding out until i see some Magic.

I find it unfortunate that Apple feels the need to provide an answer to someone like Palm. I love the iPhone, but I really think most of these features should have been an obvious candidate for the first release. Of course with something like tethering, there’s more involved than simple software/hardware changes to the phone itself. But a landscape keyboard? Copy/paste? Yes.

I saw a video on Newsy about the Pre/iPhone battle. They seem to think the Pre might put up a decent offense against the iPhone’s market share: http://www.newsy.com/videos/smarter_phone_wars/

    Personally, I’m not so sure.
