Microsoft Surface arrives in UK sporting whopper of a price-tag!

TechDigest has had the opportunity to play with the Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) home-table-computer thing they call “surface” – to be (a bit) clearer, it’s a computer, with a huge touchscreen, in a table form factor – the idea being it can do loads of cool things whilst you rub…er…. touch it.
If you’re like me, and follow tech-trends, you’ll have been watching the genesis of this bad-boy, and thinking “hmmm that could be cool in ma hoose” – but before we launch in to a bit more about the tech, er, let me tell you the price – ready? – sure? – £8500! Bang bang!
Rather than replicate the same as the TechDigest article (which is great, you can read it here), there were just a couple of points I wanted to pull out:
(1) Surface is being aimed at commercial sales right now – so probably a few years before we find them at say, the price of a Plasma screen, and in the home
(2) it works by using a DLP projector under the thickened glass table top – and then infra red sensors to sense touch – very well apparently!
(3) It’s got lotsa wireless tech in it – WiFi, RFID, WiFi, Bluetooth – the list goes on!
If you want to see a video of it in action, click here.
So what do you think? I’d kinda like one, but I moved away from Microsoft tech in my personal life a little while ago now – so this would have to be phenomenal-and-a-half for me to invite it over the threshold of my house. Perhaps when I get to play with it might blow my mind….!
