microsoft silverlight 300x334 Microsoft integrating Silverlight Mobile into Windows Mobile 7!Microsoft’s Flash competitor, Silverlight, is about to get a big boost. Word from Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) has Windows Mobile 7 rocking an integrated Silverlight Mobile client that should allow smartphone users to view and play with all kinds of Silverlight-based streaming and interactive media on the web. Unfortunately, Silverlight is only slated for Windows Mobile 7 because Microsoft missed the window of opportunity to bring the technology to market with Windows Mobile 6.5.

Windows Mobile 6.5 has already been confirmed to support widgets, which are basically web-based applications that run without a browser. With Silverlight support in WinMo 7, we could see web-based widgets becoming even more powerful and eye-catching. But, again, that will have to wait until the still-developing Windows Mobile 7 goes live.

Too bad we’ll have to wait it out with Windows Mobile 6.5 in the meanwhile…
