babelgum Babelgum: releases first integrated Digital TV platform for Mobile & Web, launches in USBabelgum has released today a new version of its mobile video application in the US, UK and Italy and simultaneously launched a redesigned website (www.babelgum.com) with a Flash-based player, offering one of the first fully integrated video mobile and web user experiences.

Babelgum mobile has already experienced success in the UK and Italy with, respectively, 30 and 25 percent of each country’s iPhone users. The application made it into the top 10 free apps on the App Store within the first two weeks of launch last December, partly as a result of a strategic agreement with Vodafone (NYSE: VOD), allowing contract customers with mobile internet bundles to enjoy all available video clips free of charge.

The new, free-to-use mobile application is now available for download on iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The Babelgum mobile application can be used in 3G and Wi-Fi mode. A version for G-Phone 1 will release later this month and one for G-Phone 2 by mid April. The application will gradually extend to Blackberry (NSDQ: RIMM) Storm, Samsung Omnia and Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N97 and 5800 handsets.

With these new releases Babelgum will be available on all major touchscreen phones and mobile operating systems including Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) mobile OS, Symbian, Android, Rim and Windows Mobile, covering most of the smartphone 3G global market.

Along with the launch of its new integrated TV platform, Babelgum offers a whole new range of innovative content, which comprises independent and mainstream programming as well as exclusive original productions. The editorial team is driven by professional publishers who scout and select programming for the following channels: Music, Comedy, Film, Our Earth (dedicated to nature and the environment) and Metropolis (all about urban culture and trends).

Sounds very cool, doesn’t it? I spent some time this evening checking it out, and have to say, liked what I saw – you can see the re-design in the partial screenshot about, but it doesn’t show it in it’s full glory – for that, you need to click here!
