Power-packed iPhone aiming for June launch on AT&T

We’re fast closing in on the mid-year mark for 2009. Last year, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) launched the second-generation iPhone (iPhone 3G) during the Summer months. This year, we’re again expecting Apple to launch some new iPhone hardware, and Boy Genius has the confirmation. According to a source with solid AT&T (NYSE: T) credentials, AT&T is aiming to launch the next-generation iPhone in June!
There has been some healthy speculation as to just what new features the next iPhone iteration will be packing. From OLED displays to video recording to multi-core processors, the upcoming iPhone 3G successor (or two) has been shrouded in rumor and hearsay. Today, we lay down some credible foundations for the third iPhone’s feature-set.
We know with a fair degree of certainty that the next iPhone will support full-on HSDPA data speeds up to 7.2Mbps. AT&T is also reportedly working with Apple to create a unified product with the next iPhone, starting with an AT&T U-Verse iPhone application that will allow AT&T TV customers to control their home DVR from their iPhone.
There’s also talk of AT&T wanting customers to choose the iPhone based on preference and not for lack of features. If that’s truly the case, AT&T could be looking to offer various iPhones with different form-factors (possibly even a QWERTY keyboard?). Of course, it’s all speculation until AT&T gets out with the official announcement.
So, if you really, really need to have some sort of launch window to look forward to, go ahead and circle the middle part of your June calendar. New iPhone launches in mid-June is apparently going to be something of a tradition with Apple from now on.
Sounds about right.
