eu flag.thumbnail EU Aiming to Cut Roaming Charges FurtherEuropeans have enjoyed capped roaming charges for quite some time now, but EU regulators are now looking to lower maximum charges even further. New caps would be put in place as of July 1st. 2009, and potentially leading to further caps in 2010/11. The proposed changes include:

  • 0.43 EUR / min outbound voice (0.39 EUR by 2010)
  • 0.19 EUR / min inbound voice (0.11 EUR by 2011)
  • 0.11 EUR / SMS message
  • 1.00 EUR / MB data (0.50 EUR / MB by 2011)

Should it pass the regulatory gauntlet in April, this bill would also cap total monthly roaming charges to 50 EUR, provided users ignore SMS warnings that they’re approaching the limit. We’re rooting for ya Europe, and, er, tough break, Big Ben.
