VisitBritain releases multi-feature app for tourists

VisitBritain (which is the national tourism agency) is now offering a free app for tourists and visitors, according to pocket-lint.com.
The app gives UK street maps, a London tube map, whats-on guides, and then the usual accomodation and weather info – along with discount vouchers – so we are basically saying it’s quite replete with info!
As they put it very nicely:
You can now get loads of our top website information including destinations guides, maps, attractions, events and accommodation listings live and completely free to your mobile phone. Bye bye guidebooks!
To access Britain’s largest online directory of destination guides and quality-assessed accommodation providers direct from your phone, simply go to http://www.mobiexplore.com/visitbritain and download the free mobiEXPLORE UK mobile application.
Once you’ve got mobiEXPLORE UK on your phone you’ll be able to view UK maps including street maps and transport maps like the London Underground map. You’ll also be able to search local ‘what’s-on’ guides and lists of the best local restaurants and hotels, access real time weather reports and receive discount vouchers. And you can do all this from your mobile phone, which means no more carrying around heavy guidebooks.
Easy-to-use, mobiEXPLORE UK with VisitBritain.com offers you up-to-the-minute news on the best places to eat, drink, sleep and visit – all at the push of a button. It gives you best parts of traditional guidebooks combined with internet search in the palm (NSDQ: PALM) of your hand.
What a great idea! I was just using a London Tube app today on my iPhone – it was genuinely useful, and if (a) the data and (b) the presentation of the data in this new app are good, then it’s goodbye to the wads of paper people would traditionally print out.
Again, if you want to check it out, go here.
