Windows Mobile 7 to feature Zune Store integration

The iPhone and integrated iTunes support has been the talk of the town for the past couple (or so) years. Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) got it in packaging music, video and application downloads into a single platform that’s already in widespread use. And, once again, Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) is looking to follow Apple’s lead. Zune functionality is indeed coming to Windows Mobile. Unfortunately, Windows Mobile fans will have to wait for Windows Mobile 7 before they’ll see integrated Zune functionality.
WMPowerUser is reporting that Windows Mobile 7 will allow users to wirelessly download music from the Zune Store. Over the air (OTA) downloads via a cellular data connection will apparently be billed through the carrier/operator, making it easy to download and pay for music. It’s not clear, however, if OTA downloads through a carrier’s network will cost more than music downloaded via WiFi.
If the carriers are indeed involved in billing for music downloads, we could see a future where carriers bundle a subscription to Zune music with an unlimited data package. Unlimited data bundled with unlimited OTA music? Yes, please (on the iPhone, if possible).
