HearPlanet for iPhone

HearPlanet announced the premium version of its popular travel application for the Apple iPhone/iPod Touch that “provides spoken descriptions for nearly 250,000 points of interest around the world.” Moreover, the so called HearPlanet Premium adds interactive maps to the mix, enabling users to “graphically browse and interact with POS without ever leaving the application.”

Among the things you can listen to in HearPlanet are detailed information about locations around the globe including landmarks, historic sites, restaurants, cultural and entertainment spots, nature and recreation areas, famous buildings and parks and sports venues. As for the maps feature mentioned above, using it users can explore points of interest displayed on a pannable and zoomable interactive map of locations around the world with street-level detail. These maps are integrated into the application, hence the spoken descriptions won’t be interrupted for starting Google Maps.

HearPlanet’s free version was launched in January, during this year’s Macworld. Since then, more than 300,000 copies have been downloaded, making it one of the most popular travel applications on the iPhone.

HearPlanet Premium is now available in the AppStore for $5.99, and the free version remains available, as well.
