Whether or not you buy the rumored BlackBerry 99XX leak from Rogers, the device certainly exists, according to a metrics report from a Venezuelan BlackBerry blog. There’s always the risk that such an identification was simply spoofed on the browser’s end, but there have been rumblings of a 9900 model for some time now, going by the codename Pluto. Like some twisted hybrid out of Greek mythology, the Pluto will supposedly have the body of a Bold, and the clicking touchscreen of a Storm, but these reports don’t confirm much of anything other than a model number’s existance. It was running OS 5.0.03, which will likely see numerous upgrades before it gets released.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement.
With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer. At IntoMobile, you can count on his posts being even-handed, well-informed and thought-out.
