Howard Stern Picks BlackBerry Bold Over Palm Pre
By James Falconer on Monday, April 6th, 2009 at 6:42 AM PST In BlackBerry, Devices, Palm, RIM (Research in Motion)

Popular radio show host and ’shock-jock’ Howard Stern has chosen a BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold over the much ballyhooed Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre.
In a move that was designed to generate some notable buzz, Palm decided to give Howard a Pre to test out, to see what he thought. The device would be delivered to his home, he would receive a few tutorials, and then they’d whisk the Pre out of his hands to safety. A quick demo for sure, but enough to give Howard a taste of what he was looking for (hopefully). Surely it would go over well, right? Especially when you consider that Stern is a long time Palm user (he currently packs a Treo) and was no doubt looking forward to getting his hands on the Pre. However, after he tested the device, he ended up choosing a BlackBerry Bold over the Pre. Why? According to Stern the Pre was all good, but the fact that it couldn’t connect to Lotus Notes was the last straw.
So, next time you listen to his show, I guarantee you’ll hear him praising the BlackBerry Bold. I bet Palm wishes they could re-do this little experiment!

James, just want to clear up some things that are being misreported here. Palm did not engage with Howard to drive buzz for the Pre. He’s a long-time Palm user and asked for a demo of the device. We did not give him a device to test. We met with him and gave him a demo, and answered some questions, and he was very impressed with the phone. He decided to go with a Blackberry because he could get it immediately with access to Lotus Notes. This does not rule out the Pre for Stern when it’s available and up and running on Lotus Notes for those who need it.
stoopid lotus notes!
i wonder if this is only a temp limitation for webOS?
lotus notes, seriously? who the **** still uses lotus-anything?! i have a Bold and its pretty nice and all, but it can’t touch the Pre (well that is a Pre when it uses GSM, not Sprint CDMA). webOS is just better than the archaic BB platform, period.
Howard’s the man!!!
