Android Set for Netbook Leap?

Strategy Analytics director of global wireless practice, Neil Mawston, sees Android making the jump off of smartphones and into the netbook arena in the near future.
“I can see Android taking between 10% and 15% of the netbook market within two years. Netbooks and laptops are a big growth area; they have higher growth potential than smartphones, even. All the major operators – such as T-Mobile (NYSE: DT), Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) and Orange – are already pushing them.”
We’ve already seen enterprising hobbyists shoehorn Android into netbooks, so it’s very doable from a technical standpoint. It’s certainly within Android’s best interests to find its way onto as many devices as possible, but t0 date the only companies doing any serious sniffing have been in the cell phone business. In time, it will be interesting to see how many different gadgets are hosting Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s operating system.

I’m unconvinced that Android will do that well in the Netbook space – see my post Android’s biggest Netbook challenge (Hint: Windows) http://www.last100.com/2009/04/07/androids-biggest-netbook-challenge-hint-windows/
