Google announced that two of its web services have been updated for iPhone and Android browser. The first one is GMail, which has a brand new, more reliable JavaScript engine that should deliver snappier user experience, as well as bits of the offline mode (“Compose” window, for instance). Not much is visible, although you may notice GMail loads faster now. There’s also one important visible feature. The so called floaty bar follows you as you go through your email. Simply select emails you want to work with and the bar will appear allowing you to archive, delete, and perform other actions on selected emails. Very cool as it eliminates the need to scroll to the top where these buttons used to be. However, if you own an iPhone you’ll need to update to the firmware version 2.2.1 in order to experience the updated GMail.
The other updated web service is Google Calendar which now includes support for event management. This means that you can not only see events you’re invited to, but can also react to invitations by responding with “Yes,” “No,” or “Maybe.” Again, iPhone users will need to upgrade their firmware to version 2.2.1 in order to see this change…
To sum things up – way to go Google. Hopefully, you won’t forget other platforms, as well. 😉
