Trend Smart Surfing for iPhone

Trend Micro wants some ride on the “iPhone wave,” hence they’ve recently announced their first iPhone app called Trend Smart Surfing to enable secure browsing on the platform. Now, don’t get this wrong – there’s nothing wrong with the built-in Safari browser. What Trend Micro tries to do is make the web surfing even more secure, by alerting you which sites could be malicious. That said, the application blocks access to suspicious website, and color-codes search results (so you could identify harmful web pages). Moreover, it provides users with three protection strength levels that can be modified according to one’s needs.

The main technology behind the app is the so called Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, a cloud-client infrastructure that checks the security of more than five billion URL, email, and file queries daily, “providing customers with real-time protection against web threats.”

As I said, it’s a free application and you can grab it from here (iTunes link).

The last thing we need is ’security’ companies spreading their FUD on mobile phones. Trend Micro, Norton and Symantec are producing malware products which are almost impossible to remove from PCs and are nagging and spamming me to buy their useless crap. I will never allow that to happen on my iPhone.
