RIM Looking for New Manufacturing Partners

After trying to to haggle manufacturing partners for lower prices, BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM)-maker Research in Motion is eyeballing new sources to simultaneously ramp up production, according to a recent report. Foxconn, who is already a big name in the manufacturing game, is the likeliest candidate for a RIM contract, and will probably see continued business if BlackBerry sales keep going as well as they have been lately. Luxombourg-based Elcoteq, Celestica and plenty of others have been feeding RIM parts for a long time now, but it’s a tough position to be in, both needing to meet higher demand, but cut costs because of a chilly economic climate. Foxconn must be making quite the offer if RIM’s willing to pick them up and not just change arrangements with existing partners.
