New Motorola ad has David Beckham peddling the Motorola AURA

If there’s one thing David Beckham does well, it’s posing for Motorola’s mobile phone ads. That and playing football, we suppose. This time around, David Beckham is working with Motorola (NYSE: MOT) to sell the $2,000 Motorola AURA. The high-end Motorola AURA handset has been available since the end of last year, but we can’t imagine that Motorola has sold many of these four-figure mobile phones. Of course, that may all change, now that Beckham has officially endorsed the AURA.

The new advertising campaign, entitled “The AURA of David Beckham” (get it?), will be hitting European airwaves sometime during the end of April. In it, we see a cyborged-out David Beckham clutching a Motorola AURA as if it were part of his body. Beckham goes on to say that he loves “classic watches, so a phone that exposes its mechanics while also being so stylish is really unique. When you hold it, it feels like you have something really special in your hand.”

We’re not going to be sold on a $2,000 cellphone just because a famous athlete puts their official stamp-of-approval on said handset, but there might just be enough well-heeled (female) Euro-types willing to shell out the bigger bucks to “be like Beckham.”
