broadcom-logoThe Bluetooth SIG just this week announced the new Bluetooth 3.0+HS specification for faster data transfers between Bluetooth-paired devices. And, without wasting any time, Broadcom has announced that its new combination Bluetooth/WiFi/FM radio chip has been certified for the Bluetooth 3.0+HS standard.

Bluetooth 3.0+HS offers a new data transfer paradigm that uses the high-speed data capabilities of WiFi to help speed-up data transfers between devices. Under the new Bluetooth spec, devices would pair faster and more reliably over the Bluetooth protocol. Data transfers are then handed off to the WiFi protocol to whisk bits and bytes over-the-air at up to 24Mbps (up to 10 times faster than the data speeds that Bluetooth 2.1+EDR can muster).

Of course, Bluetooth 3.0+HS requires that both paired devices are rocking Bluetooth and WiFi hardware. And that’s where Broadcom’s new InConcert® BCM4325 Bluetooth + Wi-Fi® + FM combo chip solution comes into play. The combo chip embeds all the components needed for Bluetooth 3.0+HS into one convenient chip, making it easier for manufacturers to integrate WiFi into their Bluetooth-enabled devices. And, the new Broadcom InConcert chip enjoys the distinction of becoming the first chip to be certified under the new Bluetooth 3.0+HS spec.
