BlackBerry 9630 Niagara to be Named Tour?
By Simon Sage on Friday, April 24th, 2009 at 5:15 AM PST In BlackBerry, Rumors

The BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) 9630 bound for Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has to date been carrying the internal “Niagara” codename since we first heard about it, but based on a tip and some domain name sleuthing, the final public name will be the BlackBerry Tour. It might sound weird at first, but that’s what people thought of the Storm when the name first come out too. It does make sense, given the 9630’s supposed world-roaming capabilities, and the name stays in line with RIM’s monosyllabic device names. Say what you will about “Tour”, I like it, and am greatful they’re finally using proper names – before the Pearl launched in 2006, BlackBerrys have just been model numbers. As far as keeping the codename, the only time that really would have been worth it was with the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, which was internally called the Kickstart.

I’m a Sprint Premier customer and my upgrade time will come in 7/1. I thought of getting the Palm Pre since it was announced but I learned about the Tour not too long ago.
I never owned a BB nor a Palm device before, but would like to get your thoughts to see if I get convinced to try the Tour or stick to my original plan on getting the Pre.
I don’t really care about having a touchscreen or not. Aside from calls of course, this is what I use/plan to use my mobile device for:
- I do a lot of emailing (gmail)
- Use Gmail calendar on a daily basis
- Lots of texting (about 25 a day)
- Google Maps and Sprint Navigation
- Document viewing (word, excel and PDF)
- Alarm Clock with customizable alerts/tones
- Copy and Paste
- Real MMS (not like iPhone that was only via email)
- Google Contacts 2-way syncing
- Listen mp3’s from time to time and Pandora
- View videos/movies sideloaded and YouTube
- Web browsing (basic stuff)
I’m open to suggestions, let me know if the Tour is a better choice for me!
