Fake Nokia N97i

“Good ol’” Chinese handset cloners are getting better with the day. Their latest “work” mimics Nokia’s latest flagship device, N97, and honestly doesn’t look that bad. I’m not sure whether I should talk like that about something that’s obviously blatant forgery, but when you look at the image above, and few more images bellow, you’ll have to agree with me.

Anyway, the so called Nokia N97i is almost identical to the real thing, except that I doubt the Finnish quality is built inside. And while I’m not sure what the “i” part means, I can only figure it stands for “it doesn’t have keyboard.” We’re talking about the all-touchscreen device here, which also packs 3.2 megapixel camera, and a user interface that tries really hard to act like the original Symbian S60 5th Edition.

The price, you ask? It’s about 750 yuan which is roughly $110. Again, the quality is spotty and the warranty, if it’s provided at all, and is as useful as Bear Stearns’ stock options…

    Hi
How can I tell a real N97i from a fake one?

    Regards

  • vahid

it is very very kos shere

  • soujiro1022

simple. THERE IS NO “REAL” N97i. Nokia only released N97 and the N97 mini. If you bought an N97i, that is a fake or clone unit from China. I do not know of any fake cloned unit as of this date since they are after all… FAKE.

In fact the 1 Gb SD memory can be replaced for a 2, 4 or 8 Gb. Remove softly the cover with the serial number and you will see under that the mini SD slot on the top left. Price is in fact less than 400 RMB.

Bought that fake N97i last week. Paid 600rmb (60euro) which is too much according to other comments, but still a reasonable price for a “laowei” (foreigner). I must say it is a good copy, but I am seriously thinking to give it away and buy a real brand for follwing reasons: the touchscreen is not always responding as expected. The camera reads Carl Zeiss, but is very low-end quality (much less than my previous Samsung with same camera resultion) Also the software has a lot of shortcomings. I have little Nokia experience, but I guess a real Nokia has much better software. For instance there is no option to have all sent messages automatically saved. You have to use Send and Save every time. Summary: this is a reasonable phone, but not good enough for people expecting real quality.

Hi, I got so excited with your sage idea that the memory of this N97i can be upgraded. Could you please elaborate more how to do it, I opened the case and when I see the back with that two sim card slot part I don’t know where to go next to find that sd card slot something you said. I may break it if I force to open unsure what is the right approach to it.
    Thanks!

I have a nokia n97i china and i change the memory card to 8gb and its working, but my problem my usb cable can n0t inserted to the usb port.? What will i do?

  • Anthony John

All i can say is that china is great in copying with first high class copy and quality is also the best, not even original can compete with the copy one so that is why Nokia should sell even in lower prices if Nokia wants to survive otherwise Nokia’s prices are so high that almost nobody can buy and that’s why copies of Nokia phones prices and quality are even much better than the original ones.
