More Palm Pre details emerge

Before you go putting all your faith into this here rumor-basket, just know that this alleged Sprint (NYSE: S) documentation isn’t in any way confirmed or acknowledged by Sprint. But, at face value, this latest Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre leak does sound plausible.
According to a supposed Sprint “insider,” the Palm Pre will support remote data wiping – a useful feature in case your data-filled Palm Pre gets lost or stolen. The remote data wipe feature is apparently initialized upon registering a “Palm Profile” for the Palm Pre. The “Palm Profile” allows the Pre to update device software, download updates to the App Catalog, restore contacts, restore data, restore applications, and makes it possible to remotely wipe the Pre.
We’re also hearing that the Palm Pre won’t support tethering (phone as modem) plans, but will require a Sprint Everything. The Pre will apparently handle up to eight email accounts, and will be launched with a “Data Transfer Assistant” that will export all data from the “Palm Desktop” to the Palm Pre in one felled swoop.
Unfortunately, the Palm Pre is said to have passed up features like Sprint Music, Sprint PictureMail, and Sprint Digital Lounge. No biggie for most, but we’d imagine there are a select few that might take issue with not having PictureMail on deck.
The rest of the newly leaked Pre info is rather dry, or has already been leaked/confirmed, but feel free to head on over to InsideSprintNow for the full rundown.

I’m glad the phone allows for the memory to be wiped. My old Sanyo
could do that but I had to pay for a service. My Instinct cannot.
At least that’s what the Sprint rep said.
-_-…. No copy/paste, simply everything plan REQUIRED, sprint $%^&ed up
i think there is a typo. i think s/he means simple everything/everything data, not simply everything/simply everything data. So you can still use your or get a regular everything data plan.
I have been holding off getting a new phone, to use it to use it as a modem with my pc so I can stream audio to my pc, and use it when a wap isn’t near by.
So I am disappointed at that point.
the palm website says MMS messaging. why do you say no picture mail?
The Pre will have MMS, it just won’t be Sprint-branded Picturemail.
Well fist of all you know this has to be a fake. It says no picture mail. The phone has a cam w/ a flash sure it won’t sprint music because its gonna feature amazon music store. Do you really think sprit would take all the time to just put out some garbage. Do you remember the last so called official sprint doc that popped up on the net. When the pre comes out we’ll get chance to check it out. Some may like it, some may not. That’s why the phone companies offer so many different phones.
DUNDUNDUN! The PRE MUST HAVE DUN (Dial up networking) and Bluetooth tethering!!!! This has been one of the most useful features for me with my Laptop/Treo out on the road where there’s no Wi-fi, and a HUGE point of jealousy from iPhone users that my laptop is online. If they take this away, it’s a massive step backwards.
Having the everything plan a requirement isn’t so bad- for one, your planning on using a phone that can be data hungry- like the iPhone. But UNlike the iPhone, the plan costs WAY less. I pay $99 a month for unlimited everything, and no one can beat that. Casual users should just get a diff phone.
And of course ther’ll be copy/paste- it’s the iPhone that omitted that ability.
As for the price? YES, it’s a killer product, but Palm is trippin if it’s not competitively priced, esp. if they want this product to be their saving grace. My prediction is that this product will help boost Palm big time in the short term, but if they continue on the whole with their legacy mindsets & bad business decisions- well… they’ll most likely get acquired.
What idiot wrote this. The Pre has copy/paste. The Pre does MMS which ELIMINATES the need to use the inferior Sprint Picturemail. The Pre has Amazon music which eliminates the inferior Sprint Music store. And finally there will be a Pre app store (similar in concept to the Apple app store) which eliminates the inferior Sprint Digital Lounge.
It’s a shame people write such tripe and others end up reading it and believe it. Do your research before rendering judgment after reading one or two of these poorly written iPhone fanboy blogs. I am neither a Pre fanboy or an iPhone fanboy, but I do believe in fair press.
Check out Sprint.com or Pre.com for the truth about this phone.
Same with ATT.com or Apple.com for iPhone info.
Done.
