star-trek-5800-xpressmusicCalling all Trekkies. Your touchscreen smartphone has arrived! There’s likely a pretty significant overlap between Trekkies and mobile enthusiasts. Case in point, myself. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have an almost debilitating affinity for mobile phones, nor am I ashamed of being a Star Trek fan. For those of you like me, Nokia’s got your back. The world’s largest cellphone maker has just announced a new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Star Trek Edition for launch next week.

Sure, the 5800 Star Trek Edition is a blatant ploy to cash in (after all, Nokia’s prime directive is to make turn a profit) on the upcoming Star Trek movie release, but that doesn’t make it any less appealing to phaser collectors and Star Trek conference attendees (I’ve never attended a Star Trek convention, I swear!). Nokia’s 5800 XpressMusic Star Trek Edition will launch with four custom wallpapers, eight movie-related ringtones and a Phaser application that should have role-playing geeks jumping with glee, or, at the very least playing Cowboys and Romulans in their mother’s basement.

The Star Trek variant of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is slated to hit market on May 1, in your choice of Blue, Red or Black/Silver. UK retailer Phones4U for free when purchased with a £25/month contract with Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and O2.
