Rogers Reports Glowing Numbers for Q1 2009

Recession? What recession? That’s exactly what the execs over at Rogers (NYSE: RCI) Wireless must be thinking.
The new guy in charge, President and CEO Nadir Mohamed has reported that Q1 results for this year grew an amazing 8%. Over 100,000 postpaid subscribers were added, and data revenue growth was boosted by 43%. Perhaps the most amazing fact from the quarterly report is the number of smartphone activations gleaned in the quarter. 360,000 new activations were had, which works out to roughly 4,000 new BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) and/or iPhone users each and every day. For Canada, that’s not too shabby. Of the 360,000, 60% are existing customers that upgraded, and 40% are newbies.
When asked to comment on the results, Nadir Mohamed commented:
“The strength of our franchises is reflected in our first quarter results. We delivered positive subscriber trends, expanded margins, and accelerated data revenue growth at Wireless. We will build upon our solid foundation by driving continuous enhancements to our customer experience, by improving our operating and capital efficiency and by continuing to deliver innovative services and leading edge technologies that our customers have come to expect.”
Customers have also come to expect ridiculously expensive data/voice plans… and over-priced devices that almost force you to lock-in for 3-years… but hey… I’m not complaining… Oh, wait… Yes I am

Thanks John!
