Apple now replacing water-logged iPhones for $199!

There used to be a time when Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) would flat out deny any iPhone warranty service or replacement if the handset showed even the slighest indication of exposure to liquids. Before some iPhone warranty services, Genius Bar techs may check any of four liquid submersion indicators (LSI’s), which change color when exposed to liquids. But, with the next-generation of iPhone bearing down on us, it seems Apple has relaxed their warranty replacement guidelines. Apple is now replacing any and all iPhones (1st gen, 2nd gen, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB) for a $199 fee!

Those looking to use their short-circuited iPhone or iPhone 3G again can take the handset into an Apple Store and ask for a replacement. Apple will swap out the dead iPhone with a refurbished model, which isn’t as good as new, but way better than an iBrick.
For the curious among you – the iPhone is fitted with four LSI strips. There’s one in the headphone jack, one in the dock connector and two pasted to internal components.

This is a much better alternative than having to buy a completely new iPhone. Well… a much better alternative would be a free one, so I guess this should say this was a better alternative.
