Gwabbit Scans BlackBerry E-Mails for Contact Info, Updates Address Book

One of the cooler products that caught my eye on the Solutions Showcase floor at WES 2009 was Gwabbit. It’s a simple, new app for BlackBerry that scans your incoming e-mail for contact information (stuff usually thrown into a signature), sends it off to their servers, figures out what fields the information would go into (phone, e-mail, etc.), compares it to your address book, and offers to update or create new contacts as needed. Although it sounds simple and awesome, they’re going with a subscrition model ($10/year) for the app, which I find just a bit confusing. Gwabbit builds off their earlier Outlook app that did the same thing, available for $19.95. I’m still unsure about how much memory this would take up by running in the background, or if it would slow down the e-mail-reading process while it’s busy scanning, but the idea is solid and will definitely be giving it a shot in the near future. Bonus points for an awesome mascot.
