kindle-iphone-1Apple may have dropped the ball by passing on a dedicated eBook reader, but that’s not stopping eBook pioneer Amazon from giving iPhone users a little eBook-love. Following on the release of Amazon’s Kindle for iPhone application, Amazon has launched an iPhone-optimized Kindle eBook webstore. The new Kindle website is now more iPhone friendly, offering users a slick interface and more than 280,000 eBook titles to flick through.

The revamped online Kindle store is designed to complement the Kindle for iPhone application. Kindle for iPhone launched in early March, and quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most popular ebook applications on the iPhone AppStore. And, with the launch of the new iPhone Kindle store, Amazon is really looking to cash in on the iPhone’s popularity. Now, clicking the “Get Books” button from within the application takes the user to a new Safari tab and opens up the iPhone-optimized Kindle store.

Amazon is riding this eBook wave all the way to the bank. This iPhone-optimized Kindle store is the latest eBook-related announcement follows on Amazon’s acquisition of eBook application developer Lexcycle. Unfortunately, Lexcycle’s eBook format isn’t compatible with the Kindle or iPhone Kindle application.
