AT&T’s iPhone 3G stock dwindling too

In case you haven’t been keeping up with your daily dose of iPhone info, you’ve been missing out on the iPhone 3G’s slow retreat to OldNewsville – where previous-generation hardware goes to live out the rest of its planned obsolete life.
The iPhone 3G just today got EOL’d by Australia’s Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) and their iPhone distributor, Brightpoint. Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) had already started to clear out remaining iPhone 3G stock by offering free shipping on online orders, with AT&T (NYSE: T) pushing iPhone 3Gs sans wireless contract onto existing customers.
So, it should come as little surprise that AT&T’s own supply of iPhone 3Gs is dwindling. New reports indicate that AT&T is running low enough on iPhone 3G stock that they’ve resorted to selling refurbished iPhone 3G handsets. It’s probably fair to assume that AT&T’s iPhone 3G inventory reduction initiatives were strategically timed to clear out most new-in-box iPhone 3G units just as the new iPhone is announced and launched.
The next-gen iPhone is due to be announced early next month, and is rumored to sport upgraded hardware (processor, memory, camera, gps, etc.) in a sleek package similar to the current-generation iPhone 3G.
