So, how long will Pre owners last in the wild before getting mugged?

With shortages like what we’re hearing, not long. Will and I talk up the imminent Palm Pre launch on Sprint and how folks shopping at Radio Shack or Best Buy will potentially be out of luck. We can only hope that stock will build up over the following weeks. Rumours of the next-generation iPhone also spark some discussion, and make us wonder about what to expect from Apple’s WWDC show coming up early next month.

The turnout for last week’s contest was sad, so let’s try it again; leave a comment for your chance to win one of three microSD memory cards from SanDisk. 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB sizes are available, so have drop us a line! So long as you’re after the jump and listening to the podcast, be sure to check out our latest poll regarding Apple’s work-around for multitasking applications. Is it good enough for you?

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement. With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer. I agree…I do want Palm to succeed and the “reports” about webOS look very promising. The price is ok but Apple might just have the next step in hardware around the corner.
As far as software is concerned my bet would be on Android (and maybe webOS) for the next 2-3 years.

    omg too cool contest ! ! !

    i want to enter !

If Palm actually is considering cutting supply of the Pre to inflate demand — they’re going to be sorely disappointed with the reaction. If the Pre is truly an iPhone killer, it should be able to sell at least half of the iPhone’s 1 million phone first run. And I’m hearing reports of 375,000 max for the Pre. That does not an iPhone killer make.

    i iz late for contest?

For those people that are looking to buy the Pre, it is definitely in your interest to go to a Best Buy first and see if you can get one there before going somewhere else.

How long until we see a GSM Pre?

    I’ll take the 16Gb, thanks. =-)
