Touchscreen Modu Coming in the Next Eight Months

By Simon Sage on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at 8:12 AM PST In New Hardware

Israeli manufacturer Modu is still kicking, and with $10 million in renewed investment, are working on a touchscreen version of their phone. The existing Modu is a very small cellular device that makes a passable mobile phone and music player on its own, but excels when accompanied with jackets for particular situations – on a bike, in the car, in a picture frame, or as a more classic phone. It’s a lot like the LG Versa, only it seems like Modu is much more dependant on its modules.  A big challenge for a touchscreen Modu will be its interoperability with existing jackets; not only will existing users be uninterested in upgrading if they have to replace all of their current accessories, but Modu will have to create a whole separate line for a touch model. If they manage to keep a touch Modu compatbile, then you’ll have a bunch of jackets that don’t take full advantage of the touchscreen. Hmmm, guess we’ll see in eight months after development is finished…
