O2 promoting the family big time!

I got a nice e-mail from O2 – it was focusing on a new ‘bolt-on’ (contract option) they are offering, but actually the bigger picture is much more important – it marks another (I think) masterstroke from O2 (NYSE: TEF) Marketing to focus on the FAMILY. Yes, I know, crazy concept, but it might just work!

The specific bolt-on gives you unlimited calls to family members for £7.50/month, which I think is quite reasonable:

Your Family Bolt On. Text, call and picture message each other as much as you like. For £7.50* a month. Five of you stay in touch. Only one of you pays £7.50. It’s for O2 customers on Pay & Go and Pay Monthly.

Pretty clear and simple – but what is more interesting is that O2 are banding together a number of concepts under their ‘Family’ banner:

• O2 Calendar (online)
• O2 Family bolt-on
• O2 Joggler (WiFi-connected digital picture frame and calendar device)

Now you see that’s an example of ‘connecting the dots’ with a targeted marketing proposition! If you add the other things that O2 are doing (not to mention a certain iPhone 3GS that just got announced, and will surely be making its way over here!), then it really begins to get to being a very complete communications services offering.
