Sipgate has recently launched a free phone service that has the ability to replace most of the landlines in the U.S. The new service, called sipgate one, operates over your Internet connection and offers a fully-featured phone service, complete with a free telephone number, no set-up costs and no monthly charges or minimums.

sipgate is extremely flexible and even works with standard analog phones, mobile phones and/or VoIP phones. When using a VoIP phone, calls to other sipgate users are completely free and so is receiving calls on the free U.S. phone number sipgate one comes with. Calls to the U.S. and Canada are just 1.9¢ per minute.

The service is completely web-based, making it accessible from any computer. From a dedicated web page, users can call someone back, divert calls to other landline or mobile phones, and browse their inbox and outbox for a complete history of voicemail messages, calls, recordings and faxes.

Moreover, sipgate also offers additional features free of charge:

  • Ability to record any phone conversation by pressing *6
  • Use mp3 file for customizing your voicemail
  • Ability to have your home, office and mobile phone ring in parallel
  • Conference calls support
  • Get list of missed calls via email

In a nutshell – sipgate has a very cool offering. You can get more information about it from their website

Been using this service for the last 3 or so year in the UK, decided to ditch the land line completely and replace it with a local Sipgate number. Works like a charm and has the added bonus of VIOP to VIOP i.e. I can call from my laptop to the home number for FREE anywhere in the world providing I have internet access and it's better quality than Skype. Try it in parallel with your existing land line supplier decide for yourself!
