T-Mobile Austria testing LTE
By Ben Robinson on Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 at 1:47 PM PST In LTE, T-Mobile
What’s with all the LTE News?! First it was TeliaSonera, and now it’s T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) Austria who are getting on the LTE bandwagon…
TeleGeography is reporting that T-Mobile Austria has installed a test LTE network in its Vienna Renweg store. As with some other Operators, it’s Huawei that is on infrastructure duties.
They managed to get 130Mbps out of the cell, which was nice – but T-Mobile are now busy lobbying the government to consider giving out the 2.6GHz spectrum so that LTE can be launched on a commercial basis.
What I want to know is when we are getting LTE in the UK – despite some murmurs, the only broadband-related news I have heard is that the Government is planning to give people 2Mbps (on fixed-line) by 2012… sigh…

Another TeleGeography story (17 June 2009) points you in the direction of a new UK government broadband report which includes amongst other things a call for the immediate release of the 2.6GHz spectrum:
