UK: Carphone Warehouse profits leap up!

Cellular News is reporting that Carphone Warehouse has had a big jump in full-year profit from £73 million last year to £550 million this year – this being due to a big gain from the sale of its retail business.

The company is now in two parts, with the fixed-line telephony and ISP (TalkTalk) being one bit, and the retail arm (called Best Buy Europe) being the other.

Well it’s both impressive, and I suppose also not indicative of regular profits – the fact that CW had that much value in it’s retail arm does give some indication as to the good business they’ve been doing. Certainly I have found them to be one of the better shops in the high street.
