Videos: The BBC on the iPhone 3G S and the Nokia N97

Had enough iPhone news? I know, it’s terrible, and I’m the first one to admit that I just want to escape to some cottage with no running water or electricity right now and eat some magical mushrooms, but sadly the iPhone is what’s on everyone’s mind at the present moment.

In the first video: Rory Cellan-Jones compares the features of the Nokia N97 and the iPhone 3G S with some fancy video work to make it appear as if he has a clone:

In the second video: Dan Simmons reviews the Nokia N97 all by itself. He’s the first person I’ve heard, ever, to say the keyboard is “a pleasure to use.” Due to the BBC not including an embed code, you’ll have to click through to watch. Be warned, the video auto plays. Make sure you’re volume is set to an appropriate level or the last thing you’ll hear before your ear drums burst, and blood starts pouring out of the sides of your head, is a British accent.

It started with computers, but in the past few years his passion has turned to mobile devices. As a mobile phone enthusiast who lives and breathes devices that connect to the internet, he knows he is not alone with this radical fascination of all things wireless. Stefan began blogging as a hobby in the fall of 2006 and joined IntoMobile in the summer of 2007. Later he got a job at Nokia in March 2008, but as of June 2009 he has rejoined the IntoMobile team. He is currently based out of Helsinki, Finland.

Death by British accent is THE way to go… :-)

  • Tom

Okay, seriously? The n97 and symbian OS still looks like shit. The phones don’t compare.

The n97 is the previous generation of smart phone, it’s like comparing a Sony PS2 to an Xbox 360.

  • Stefan Constantinescu

Some people enjoy living in the past. I’m one of them. I’m a stubborn motherfucker and don’t intend on buying an iPhone until Apple makes a model with a keyboard.

Nokia E71 for me, and I’ll probably pick up the E72 when that comes out. The N97 is a steaming pile of disappointing shit, I agree whole heartedly.

  • Tom

Heh, fair enough, but why not pick up a Palm Pre then?

  • Stefan Constantinescu

CDMA only at the moment = doesn’t work in Europe. I also have a strong policy against buying 1st generation products. This is Palm’s first webOS device and it’s built out of shiny black finger print loving plastic and most of the reviews I’ve read on the net say the keyboard is small and cramped.

I’ll wait. Everything I want to do with my phone, I can do today. I’m sure there are a lot of things I could, and would want to, do on the iPhone, but as it stands … it isn’t the device for me, yet.

We’ll see what the company does in 2010.

  • Zak

I think the truth lies in the fact that Stefan works for Nokia :)

    (conflict of interest)

  • Tom

Very good points. I forgot that there wasn’t a GSM version available yet. Poor judgement on Palm’s behalf to go with Sprint for a first launch IMHO. It’ll be interesting to see if it will catch on once the GSM version is available.

Thank God you are back, this site needs a bit of common sense and a more balanced view (to counter the fundamental iphone evangelist Will Park)

  • Stefan Constantinescu

@Zak: I no longer work for Nokia, check out my “Hello World. Again.” blog post for more details about this: http://www.intomobile.com/2009/06/11/hello-world-again.html
