iPhone Dev Team releases PwnageTool 3.0 for iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak

I’m just as sick of hearing the Dev Team talk about their little “cat and mouse” game that’s being played out in the iPhone-stage. But, there’s no denying the Dev Team’s ability to keep their mouse from being eaten. For those of you that don’t know what all this hyperbole is referring to, let me put it more simply. The iPhone Dev Team has released their latest iPhone jailbreak tool – PwnageTool 3.0!
This latest version of PwnageTool will allow anyone with an iPhone or iPhone 3G to jailbreak the just-released iPhone OS 3.0 update. It’s important to note that PwnageTool 3.0 will only work on previous-gen hardware running iPhone 3.0 OS – the iPhone 3G S will not work with PwnageTool 3.0.
PwnageTool will unlock your first-gen iPhone’s baseband (the little piece of code that controls which carrier network your iPhone can connect to). Unfortunately, iPhone 3G users will have to wait until Tha Team releases their latest iPhone 3.0 OS unlock utility, called “ultrasn0w.”
It’s important to note that the previous “yellowsn0w” iPhone 3G unlock utility can’t unlock the 3.0 baseband. Only “ultrasn0w” can unlock the new baseband bundled with the iPhone OS 3.0. If you’re using an unlocked iPhone 3G, you’ll probably want to wait until the “ultrasn0w” utility is released through Cydia. Upgrading to 3.0 now will lock your iPhone until “ultrasn0w” is released.
With all that said, grab PwnageTool 3.0 (only Mac) here.

Was in the same situation… just bought a friend’s 2 week old 3G & she’d kept the SIM for her new phone. So figuring that since the wireless apps all worked fine w/out the card, I’d go ahead & update the OS to 3.0 before putting it on the T-Mobile system…
Everything was going fine til the phone reboot & that’s when I found out that No Valid SIM card = No Phone Activation. Great. So I called up the T-Mobile store by my house & they sent me over to a Multi-carrier cell dealer to get it jailbroken & unlocked. Dropped it off Friday night & they said hopefully Monday it’ll be ready. (if the unlocking software update arrives over the weekend…)
After spending the last 6 days heavily researching how to do this for myself–and I’m no stranger to unlocking secure-cards, having taught myself how to ‘pop’ & reprogram the card in my satellite tv reciever a few years back (not for profit, just wanted to see if I could do it…)—anyway, what I’ve learned is that there’s so many more ways to screw this up by doing it wrong & the $35 I’m paying to have it done is well worth the amount of time & frustration I’d be looking at if I did it my self.
I say leave it to the Pro’s unless you’re absolutely sure you know what you’re doing & are 100% confident in the program that your using. Otherwise, it can easily be a very expensive learning experience, when u permanently brick your phone…
Just my opinion, though…
and there’s a whoooooole lot more people on here that are better qualifed for you to listen to than me…. seriously.
