Mobile 2.0 Europe: Context panel

The Context panel is about to end. The key point here is location and how to better serve customer based on where they currently are.

Some of the issues raised/discussed:

  • What to do with all that data? Various location-based services are already live, but there is still so much data available about users’ behavior which is not used.
  • Privacy issues stay a concern, but it is said that both operators and other parties involved in the ecosystem respect the law.
  • There was a talk about a recommendation engine a la Amazon.com. In addition to location data, location-based services should also use data submitted by other people, so that a single user could get an answer to a question “where people like me go/eat/drink?”. This is already possible in some apps like Loopt, but the wide adoption would bring benefits to everyone.

And that’s about all I caught at this panel. It was certainly interesting. Next stop is Startup Launch pad and then launch afterwards…
