Reuters is reporting on a Merrill Lynch analyst, who has stated that China Unicom are close to closing a deal for the iPhone – making it the exclusive seller for for two years!
The analyst, Cynthia Meng, says that iPhone products, plus a 3G rollout will begin in Q409.
Of course there has been a huge amount of speculation around which of China’s carrier the iPhone will land with – whichever way round though, it is set to do massive volumes once it goes on sale, despite I imagine will be a steep premium.
It is said that things have taken so long in China because the state objects to Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s revenue-share model – once it starts selling though, and the money comes rolling in, perhaps they will change their minds on the matter!
