Palm Pre does 1-fps video, kinda, sorta

Some Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Pre owners are likely feeling the pain that many an iPhone and iPhone 3G owner has been putting up with for years. I’m speaking, of course, about video recording. Or, rather, the lack of any true video recording support on the Palm Pre. But, with a little elbow grease and some DIY-spirit, the Palm Pre can kinda sorta record video.
One clever Palm Pre owner decided to put the Palm Pre’s fast shot-to-shot time to record pictures at about one frame per second. jeremy9174 took his series of one-second-apart photos and stitched them together, resulting in the makeshift video you see below.
The 1-fps frame rate doesn’t exactly make for any usable video footage, but it sure is a cool way to make some stop-motion video.

Don’t be fooled by the lack of video recording software for the first release of the Palm Pre. The chip in this baby runs at 600Mhz or faster and easily overshadows the first release of the iPhone. With it’s high resolution camera, and multitasking capability no iPhone can compete with, it’s just a matter of time before the same mobile software developers for the iPhone and Palm Treo build top of the line video recording software for a top-of-the-line smartphone.
Why should Palm be on point for every software that 3rd party developers are eager to build and earn piece of the revenue pie? As long as the hardware has great camera resolution, fast CPU, and great development environment, video recording including editing can easily be developed to run for the Palm Pre.
smartphone programmer, do you promise?
What you say makes sense and is pretty reassuring. I don’t understand why Palm wouldn’t be saying the same thing though, since feature comparisons to the iphone 3G S (along with service provider and plan costs) are the major considerations for whether to get this phone.
I would not trade my iPhone 3G S for a Pre in a million years. I’ve played with a pre (son in law’s phone) and didn’t really care for it. Not very user friendly. He’s very disappointed that it has no video recorder and the lack of usable features on it. …. So yeah, the Pre is much more advanced than the first iPhone… they’ve had almost three years to copy it and still no video camera. So the PRE does compare to the 1st generation iPhone but it is light years away from my 3G S
Yeah, but then again your iphone 3gs took it 3 years to get where it’s @, and already you guys are comparing it to a phone that barely has a month on it. If you’re comparing it so much like everyone else out there, there must be a reason????? The Iphone is so advanced in the sense that not only apple had hands on it but also developers.. How long did it take apple to make an app store Hmmmm like about a year, as to the Pre that has one already, true not very many apps, but again how much of a head start has apple had with theirs? So you see in retrospect it’s the developers that make your iphone so wow, so give the pre some time, the official public sdk is not even out yet, so let’s see what happens when the sdk is released, ohh man this i’ve got to see…..
I have had my pre” since it came out and personally my only problem is the lack of apps! I have had an iphone and Tmobile’s G1 and my PRE is my fav. whenever palm desides to let 3rd party sites to make apps the sales will be out the roof. So get on it PALM!!! You are slacking in that department which is the biggest selling point on these 3 phones.
