Um, anyone else got OS 3.0 issues on the iPhone 3G?

I have.
Having upgraded the iPhone 3G just around a week ago, I’ve been using the device and noticed a bunch a stuff….
- battery consumption seems a bit worse
- email client unstable
- things generally running a bit more dopey
So what gives?
Well my usage pattern isn’t any different than usual, and yet I seem to sometimes have trouble getting a day’s worth of function out of the device – bearing in mind I have all radios turned off (except Bluetooth), and run my device on 2G only (3G off), that’s a change that I am not enjoying since upgrading the firmware…
Mail, mail, mail – what happened? You and I were once good friends, and yet now your spurn me at every turn! More accurately, you crash regularly, or hang. Oh, mail, you make me sad. Seriously though, whatever happened in the good work Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) did to make Mail incrementally more stable seems to have been undone with 3.0…. crashes are now a sad reality!
OS 3.0 heaps improvements on the operating system – but I wonder if some of these mean we get temporary hangs, and slower running, more often? I say this is the case, but of course everyone has their own experiences…
So what I want to know is: what ailments, if any, have you been suffering from on OS 3.0? Does your iPhone 3G run slow? Let us know!

yes, mi iphone 3g now is slower than ever.. when i type a word takes forever to really show it on the screen.. the battery is worse than before and probably the when i see my contacts and some lines look weird, like they are not aligned ..
what about you guys?
I have Twitter problems since I did the upgrade. I can’t see anything in saved searches or
nearby. Tweet deck kicks me out allot and says no/ or slow
internet . I do notice the bettery issue too.
YES. OMG. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE. my 3g iphone goes so slow now that i did
that upgrade. The mail, photos, applications, text, everything runs slow. things
crash more often. and did i mention that everything is SLOW. I’m wondering if
the 3.0 was worth it. obviously the processor is too slow to work with the new
software. me no likey. anyways. i hope they fix it soon. i need a working phone
until i upgrade to 3gs.
3GS isnt any better, my WiFi sometimes works othertimes it doesnt, app store loads sometimes then doesnt other, i get cant find server messages and my batt is lucky to last 3/4 of a day. Not why i waited for the 3GS, my friend 3G not running SO 3.0 was a delight to use
That’s strange because my 3GS is very fast at least compared to my old HTC touch. Can’t say I’m having any problems with the wifi either.
Today my 3GS went bad. Wifi has problems connecting and I am having problems with the signal strength
I feel with you. I have had the 3GS for for one day and I am experiencing the same as you. Right now I am considering changing the phone
I agree my 3G (not 3.0) is running real smoothly. Mail and safari is a dream and after what I have heard here I am in no hurry to upgrade to 3.0
oh yeah. and the internet is slow. when i say all the apps. opening an app.
opening my text. sending emails. internet is crazy slow. i work for at&t and
in this building it’s highest speed we offer in the US. towers are here and
it’s still crazy slow. IPHONE 3.0 update now please.
Absolutley having all of the same issues! Everything is now so slow it’s very frustrating. I am so sorry that I upgraded the software. Apple needs to fix this and soon.
I was having some issues too after the upgrade. My biggest issue was battery life and an odd issue of my app icons being wrong. Example my Twitter app had the icon for my translator app. Very strange. I have done a full restore and have noticed a huge difference in the battery life and things seem to run smoother. I would recommend doing a restore in hopes that will help you too. My phone has been unplugged since 7 am and I am still at 70% battery. My push is set to every hour for mail and I have notifications and wifi on.
I have an iPhone 3g running OS 3.0.
It is definitely sloooooooow. Slow to load apps. Slow to run apps. Slow slow slow.
I haven’t had mail crash, but it does behave oddly. Often the delete icon doesn’t work, so I have to reboot the phone.
The biggest problem is that often I can’t answer a ringing phone; I slide the slider but the phone stays locked. As soon as the ringing stops, I can slide the slider and all is normal, but of course I’ve missed the call.
I wish I woulda waited for OS 3.1.
Dude I feel your pain. I have the same issues.
When I first got my iPhone 3G it ran like like lightening….
Ive never had any issues with my 3G since I got it, every update has worked fine, must be a lucky one!!
The email side of things sometimes doesn’t “push” but that’s not the phone its apple’s MobileMe sever playing up.
I have spoken with an apple expert and the trick seems to be that you remove all loaded apps, music etc (basically everything you have put on it yourself) then update the phone software and then you can reload your apps etc. this is a clean way of installing.
Whenever someone calls me and I answer it, springboard crashes and I lose connection. Then my phone goes into safe mode……any suggestions??
Since this thread is about Firmware 3.0 I should mention that it plays havoc with the first Gen iPhone as well on that model I don’t seem to be having the mail problems everyone else here seems to be seeing but I do have the problem with Mobile Safari where it hangs. The iPhone then has to be powered down and restarted for the problem to go away. It’s is not all the internet that affected just Mobile Safari, you can still check mail or your stocks or iTunes Store it’s just Safari that hangs even if you come back to it after being elsewhere the gear continues to spin or you’ve turned off WiFi and reactivated it. If it was on a Mac and you did a Force Quit the dialog box would probably display “Safari (Not Responding)”. Second issues is inconsistent connection of my Bluetooth headset, it shows connected but you neither can hear or be heard by your connected party. The only fix is to disconnect the headset and reconnect it in the Settings>General>Bluetooth.
yeah i have had the same problems. My battery suck wont stay charged, and when i send or get a text message it takes around 15 to 20 mins for me or the other person to get it. 3.0 sucks and wish i never would have updated it. dose anyone know of a way to go back to 2.0
It takes a very long time for my text messaging to open, and people aren’t getting all my texts! I also notice typing is a bit laggy now. Other than that I think 3.0 is great! As soon as I upgraded I did I restore so my battery actually lasts longer now.
super slow since upgraded to 3.0… it’s pretty annoying. apps crash intermittently, mail takes forever to load, phone freezes in photos. i’m really hoping an update comes quickly.
Hi Guys.
I have the same problem with every app being slow to load and emial (gmail) keeps pushing/fetching even when I have turned them off. I had to de-activate my email account just so it doesn’t push. Any idea how to solve this problem?
After a 3rd restore, my iphone 3g now seems to run ok. Battery has been holding up and apps now seem to be on the ball.
I know its a pain but try another restore.
Since I upgraded my GPS is 2-3 blocks off, my mail, google, kindle all crash. My iTunes album search (scroll) freezes. In addition, the phone has stated “No Service” on several occasions. Also frequently I have 5 bars/3G service; yet I cannot connect to the internet and get error messages. I already went to the apple store- they ran a diagnostic and complete restore stating that this would solve the issues – oh, and could I delete a gig of data from my phone – maybe that would help!!!!!!!!! Well guess what – same problems after total restore. Am going back to apple store and demanding a new phone!
I am in agreement with KennMSr. Since I have the 1st gen iPhone, both the first OS and the 2.0 have had almost nothing wrong with them and literally no lock ups. Since upgrading to the 3.0 my Safari isn’t worth a damn! There is no rhyme or reason to the lock up, and it does it every freaking time! I have literally had more lock ups since I upgraded than in the entire 2 years I have owned the phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
i USED to have these problems… super slow text app opening, super duper slow camera app, the battery would be stuck on 100% all the time, Cydia wouldn’t work right, and probably some other problems that I just didn’t get to find out that I had them. I have a jailbroken 3G. At first I thought that was the problem, but nope!
This past weekend, I redid the 3.0 update and that seem to fix ALL my issues. Download the 3.0 FW from somewhere online or look in C:\Documents and Settings\*USER HERE*\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates to get the file you previously downloaded in iTunes… Hold Shift and click the restore button, then find the file to reinstall it.
Seemed to work for me! Hope it helps.
Speed issues are abundant here as well. Things that used to be smooth, like scrolling through springboard pages or even down the contacts list have become quite jerky. The zoom in/out animations that happen when you open/close an app are jerky. Haven’t had issues with the mail app dying, but then again there’s still time for that. Battery life is horrible. Have been charging everyday since the update. Interesting thing is that turning off push improves the battery and turning on airplane mode improves the speed. Basically, from what I can tell, to use OS 3.0 smoothly and without hassle, you have to not use any of the new features, and disable cell/wi-fi/bluetooth, effectively turning the iPhone 3G into an iPod Touch. Go figure.
3.0 is great with its new features, but the performance of almost all the existing features suck. Battery life is worst like it’s never been. Phone freezes in contacts, ipod and applications! i hope they’ll comeup with a nice patch that will fix all these issues.
I agree – I lost on performance and battery life. Have had no freezes/stability issues reported.
However, now my GPRS connection (I’m in China, so no 3G yet) isn’t working, and I’ve been unable to troubleshoot. By not working I mean nada, zero. I’ve survived using the occasional WiFi spot, but this problem is driving me crazy.
Any one else with same problem? Any suggestions on which tools to troubleshoot? I’m totally comfortable with console and IP diagnostic tools, but I don’t even reach the point where I can nmap/ping/tcpdump anything – I’m not sure if the problem is on the carrier side or the phone side. China Telecom staff has tried to help but again I’m not sure they have ruled 100% that the problem is on the handset side.
Thanks!
Yes, much slower. Mainly opening and closing apps, SMS, etc. Battery life is now atrocious. That and it runs a lot warmer then before. I actually took my phone in and had it replaced it got so hot. Low and behold, the new phone gets really warm and battery life is still dismal. As excited as we all were, maybe Apple should have held off on releasing this, I’m having a hard time convincing myself this has been worth it. Maybe Apple maimed the phones intentionally to make the 3G S look more enticing. After playing with the new phone I couldn’t help but think “my phone was responsive like this before the update” I suppose once sales slow down we will get a proper update and our phones back.
I think it’s better because my wifi is not very good and I’ve got an Iphone 1.0 (I don’t think 3G is better also).
iPhone is not bether than anything. I want a HTC Hero with android.
I’ve been struggling along with the iPhone 3G and 3.0 since the upgrade, and I’m not even remotely happy anymore. I used to love the iPhone and I’d wax lyrical to anyone and everyone who ever mentioned it. Now it lives in my pocket and I try to avoid using it wherever possible. Luckily I’m getting a HTC Touch Pro 2 shortly through work so I can put it in a drawer and forget about this whole tedious experience.
My 3G 8GB has lost all sound, I’ve tried reboot, restore, using air duster to the headphone jack, etc… everything I’ve read to do. sometimes one of the three methods will fix it, but the problem always returns. not sure if it is a hardware or software flaw, but it has become useless, no sound= no phone calls, no ipod, no audio at all! I’m really considering thinking about switching phones and getting the Palm Pre.
