Widespread anecdotal evidence is blaming the latest iPhone software for cutting battery life extremely short (ironic, considering it was one of the key selling points of the recently-released 3GS model). We’ve had plenty of comments in agreement on the issue, though some are able to get things working smoothly after a clean reinstall of the software. Push notifications have been a thorn in Apple’s side lately, and could be the battery drain culprit – if you’re having problems, try turning it off and ditching your Exchange accounts. OS 3.1 looks like it’s just around the corner, so we can only hope it’ll patch things up.

In exploring RIM’s platform, he has learned what enterprises are looking for in mobility as well as what makes the innocuous BlackBerry so appealing to them. Recently Simon’s been covering RIM’s gradual move into an already-crowded consumer market, and the impact of burgeoning challengers, such as the iPhone, as well as long-time leaders, like Nokia, on BlackBerry’s advancement.
With plenty of content under his belt, Simon will be branching off a bit to see what other smartphone manufacturers are working on while still using BlackBerry as a barometer. At IntoMobile, you can count on his posts being even-handed, well-informed and thought-out.
