Telecom Italia, 3 Italia sign tower sharing agreement

Two of the leading mobile operators in Italy, Telecom Italia (NYSE: TI) and 3 Italia, have signed a three-year long “co-siting” agreement to share radio mobile access sites, both existing ones and those that will be built in the future. The objects of the agreement is the so called “passive” infrastructure, which includes poles, cables, electricity supply and conditioning systems and other civil infrastructures.
As a result, each of the two operators, aside from maintaining ownership of its infrastructure, will also house the radio mobile stations of the other party. The deal does not include electronic devices which permit the supply of mobile telephony services to their customers or relative management services.
Finally, it’s worth adding that with this agreement, Telecom Italia and 3 Italia get their share in promoting a more efficient use of network infrastructure in urban and rural areas, ensuring the observance of the guidelines contained in the Code for Electronic Communications. At the same time, their costs are expected to go down up to 30%, while the time for further network development will be reduced…
