Anand Lal Shimpi published his 16 page “Understand the iPhone 3GS” article yesterday, and if you’re the kind of person who would like to know more about the new Cortex A8 processor inside Apple’s latest mobile phone, then this is a must-read article. You’ll get a crash course on single issue, versus dual issue processor cores, the steps required to decode an instruction, and a few benchmarks pitting the 3GS against the original iPhone running the 3.0 OS, the iPhone 3G running 3.0, and the Palm Pre.

Not for ADD crowd, it is 16 pages, and not for those expecting to hear something ground breaking, many of the conclusions he arrives at, you’ve most certainly read elsewhere. Anand isn’t known for his speed at getting a witty 1000 word article up 48 hours after receiving a new product, he is known for in depth technical writing that you used to see in magazines in the late 90s and early 00s, but today no longer get published since their audience is so small.

This article is for those people.
