GPS on Verizon’s Samsung Omnia is now free as a bird!

Samsung Omnia from Verizon

Don’t you just hate the carriers when they block a feature on your phone? I do, and I personally disliked Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless for locking GPS on the Samsung Omnia. After all, it’s a super capable device running Windows Mobile, allowing users to install a number of applications.

Verizon has finally realized that it was a stupid move on their behalf and has made an update available that allows third-party location-based apps to run on Omnia. So once the device is updated, you’ll be able to use Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps, TomTom, Garmin, and so on… Enough said – if you have the Samsung Omnia from Verizon, this is one step you should take!
