Verizon announces its first-ever Developer Community Conference for July 28th; Developers rush in, and the registration is now closed to new registrants

We know Verizon is working on its mobile app store, and to support the efforts of developers to bring as many apps as they can, the carrier announced its first-ever Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Developer Community (VDC) Conference to be held on on July 28th at The Fairmont San Jose, focused entirely on mobile apps.
The announcement was made yesterday and today you can’t register any more due to “overwhelming number of people” who already registered. You can, however, watch the Live General Session Webcast, which will feature executives from Verizon, RIM and Softbank (OTCPK: SFTBF) Mobile.
As for the goal of the conference, Verizon’s idea is to provide interested developers with an overview of the company’s overall strategy around applications: information on a new developer portal and the process of submitting, launching and revenue sharing, as well as all the details about the upcoming applications store.
